Partitioning went fine, formatting is done. I now come to this error when trying to install to the new volume.

Code:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.

What's next guys.. I don't want to quit now.. I just feel like it's about to get nasty. Confused

I have a relatively small C drive (30GB) so I do nightly backups of the whole drive onto my 250 GB external.

I did the same thing as you last night only I had windows 7 and put on Vista on another drive. It took me three times to get the installation to work.

Question: When you are trying to install 7 on the hard drive, is it connected with eSATA or U.S.B.?

I'm pretty sure you'd need to change your bios settings to boot from USB, if it's an external drive.
