Anyone have any good references for learning the basics about graphic design?
I currently only have Photoshop CS4.

Any personal Tips/tricks?

Personal Tip: Lots and lots of tutorials. That's definitely what's helped me, and instead of just straight copying them, add your own personal flair. I love my photoshop. I even had a photoshop run there for awhile where I did nothing except make stuff. And even if you do actually do copy them, still add your own flair. Make it yours make it unique and don't be afraid of criticism.

http://www.sigtutorials.com is something that I visit quite frequently to get criticism and to see what other people are making. They have wonderful tutorials and if you have questions they'll find you one or make you a tutorial for it. Never used Guild Inn but it seems to be just like ST. Most of them have pretty basic tutorials about learning graphic designing. I know here, there's a free class at the community college in graphic design as well. Could check it out and see if it's in your area.

Graphic Design can be easy to learn, compared to most other task that need to be done on a site PhotoShop is a great place to start.

Honestly, just look on Youtube, that's how I learned Photoshop.
There's just about everything you could ever want to learn on there.
