cant you jsut drag it into his hand? explain.
It's not pixel art, and it needs to match the resolution of Yoshi himself.

I'd make a video tutorial on how to sprite weapons, but I'm busy with programming the actual game and don't want to get so distracted. But basically here is what I do in GIMP:

I make two layers: one with Yoshi's arms and one blank one.
I open a photograph of the gun I want to make in MS Paint.
I zoom in on Yoshi's hands until they visually match the size ratio of the gun in the photo.
I then start working on a sprite, using basic colors. I try to match the features of the photo best I can at the resolution I'm working at.
Then I add shading, and the minor details.
Then I save duplicate the sprite layer when I'm finished and save it so it shows Yoshi holding the gun and the gun alone.
In the video you can also see me make a layer with desaturated noise, and then using the Multiply blend mode and lower the opacity to 10%-30% to achieve a textured kind of look.

If I think the final result sucks, I won't use it. Graphics is going to have a lot of focus, and I can't take something that either is poorly made or doesn't consistently match the rest of the weapon sprites' style.

EDIT:
I just started working on bullets, and I'm just changing how they collide with other objects. Check it out so far: http://www.screencast.com/t/txCkBnW1
Here goes my fav. sniper rifle : the M24

I'm still struggling with the whole using 2 hands thing. If you have any advice, pls do tell me Big Grin

UPDATE :
The barrel was a bit short :

I like it! The hands aren't too far apart and it actually looks pretty natural for Yoshi to hold. You should look at this image guide to how to make sprites look a little textured: It's very large file size, but it's a little hard to read. (the guide requires you have your gun sprite on its own transparent layer)

I'm still working on guns in game. I added an accuracy variable, and a fire-rate variable. Next I need to add a weight variable.
Here are some suggestions;

M4a1

It looks as though TheDoctor is getting the hang of it. Smile

I would give this a try myself but I doubt i'll make a good enough attempt.

Yeah, and it's fun imo Big Grin

It does look fun.

What software do you use to make them?
I use GIMP coz I'm mainly on Linux now that I have installed it. Also because my Windows fked up bad and I can't use Photoshop. If it weren't for that, I'd be using my beloved PS Big Grin
It looks brilliant. Definitely will use it!

I got some bug fixes to do before I work more on the guns. I discover more weirdo little bugs every day. XP
