Imo, CloudFlare kind of sucks. I don't know what it is, but it reports our server[a forum I'm admin on] as offline when it isn't. I don't know which package we have though.
I do not understand any of this. lol

Pretty important to make sure you don't have rules at your server or host blocking/limiting CloudFlare requests (.htacess, firewall rules, iptables,etc.). The message only appears when (a) server is actually having issues, or (b) there are rules at the server or host stopping our connection requests. More details here: http://www.cloudflare.com/wiki/I_keep_se...Offline%22

There are also some tips on CloudFlare and forums that I would strongly recommend reading.

It isn't quite as complicated as it looks by reading the thread. More than happy to clarify anything related to CloudFlare, however.

Can you explain further on what level of DDOS attacks it prevents and if it does a better job by paying more?

Think small attacks = probably ok. I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking that an attack of 1gbps is going to be ok. The very nature of our network helps with some attacks, but is not really built to be a DDoS solution.

We are exploring to see if we can offer some sort of more robust DDoS protection in the future to customers that will pay.

I will be happy to pay for that privilege if cloudfare offered it. Hopefully it would be cheaper than people like Staminus. It just kills you when you are having to pay 500+ month just to protect your website from DDOS attacks..

I will be re opening this new website anyway and the competition is crazy which means lots of attacks coming through. I am just trying to find the cheapest possible option lol.

I decided to install it for my small forum. Just to get a feel for it and see what it is like. http://rskingdom.com

I have been looking through settings and options and I must say I love it. I will actually be upgrading to pro!
Some hosts have a build in dels protection. You should ask Smile

Yikes. That seems awfully expensive! I can guarantee whatever we end up with (if feasible) wouldn't be in that price range.

We do try to keep Pro accounts on as much as possible right now during an attack. I just want to set the reasonable expectation that we might end up going direct during a huge attack.
