Photo recovery from a re-formatted hard drive?
#1
Hey guys, I haven't posted here before and I usually hate coming for help with problems but I do need some help at the moment.

I recently booted my computer to find that my Windows XP partition would not boot. (I am duel booting with Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows XP Professional).

After the Windows XP recovery console from the boot disk would not work because it said I had no hard drive installed I used the option on an old Windows 98 boot disk to wipe my hard drive blank (including the Ubuntu 9.10 partition that still worked with the same hard drive). I have since re-installed Ubuntu 9.10 but the Windows XP boot disk still gives me the same error and wont let me re-install.

Heres my real problem though. I just realised that my dad had ALL his photos on the computer and he is very upset that they are gone (as anyone would be if he had about 30 years of photos deleted). I have heard of photo recovery programs that can recover photos from a hard drive even after it has been formatted but I'm at a lose as to which to use, can anyone please help me?

Thanks

I recommend using "Power Data Recovery", it's very qucik program and it retrives all lost photos. I always use it and never had any problem with it and im 100% sure your dad will be happy. For further actions pm me ;)

Thanks man, I will try it out Smile

Edit: No avail, this only lets me scan my ubuntu 9.10 file system, but I need something that will scan for files from an old partition.

What I did was wipe the hard drive off all partitions, then I installed ubuntu 9.10 in the space where Windows Xp used to be, but I need to get files from the old Windows Xp partition. Is this even possible?

Yes. It doesn't matter, whether you have installed a new operating system or formatted your partitions, it will still find all your missing files. Just do a full scan through "Deep Scan" tab, and hopefully everything is going to be just fine.

Hey man, that sounds like hopeful advice. Did you recover your files?

Nah, I never did. Found the old partition but it was corrupted. I may need to get a specialist to do it for me...

Did you try "deep scan"? because the other functions are just to show the number of files on the hard disk and it shows it as corrupted. If you did so, then as you said take it to specialist.

Good Luck
