Testing OS's

I run mint; its not all that great. The interface is hot, but the cache and various other problems cause it to be extremely not worth it.

I recommend fedora, if you have a good RAM
If you want simplicity and a decent interface, Ubuntu.
If you are a little advanced in the CLI, Slackware, Gentoo.
If you want to run a server, Ubuntu server, FreeBSD.

I have a pile of Linux distributions on my desk; I like to experiment with different OS's also.

I take it that VMs are worthless when experimenting with OS's.
