Hmmm imo the Theme just SUCKS it's not attractive at all
Sorry for telling this but i am helping you maybe you can change the theme to something eye catchy ??

Change it to a more simplistic design. That is rather essential. Also, the dimensions on that badboy are HUUUUGE! I can't see half the page. The pattern in the backround is somewhat disturbing to my eyes as well.

OP needs to learn fundamentals then grow on that.
When i started i made much the same page.
Its where all of us start.
I just want to set the OP in the correct direction.
And for that i feel HTML knowledge is important.
Followed by atleast basic PHP knowledge.
Then Yes. SEO becomes the next issue.
But these are the 3 steps one really must take in order to deal with the requirements of owning and maintaining a website.

Complete waste of money.
Paid hits are useless IMHO.
What you want to do ultimately is attract members.
This requires some key things.
Niche first and foremost.
Content secondly.
And commitment finally.
Then advertising etc.
But first you need to be competent in HTML and PHP.

Learn some HTML. Here is a great place. http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
Learn some PHP. Hers is the place to go. http://www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp
Seriously read and learn from there. Its a good place to start mate. Most if not all of us at some time have gone there.
And learn basic meta tags. I know they dont mean much. But a title means loads!

Dude why do u use a strict Doctype? Use transitional much better.
@OP Get dreamweaver and photoshop. Make your webpage layout in PS and then export to a web document to be used in DW. Then publish using DW. Search around the forums and/or google for complete tutorials
