You made me lol irl. It would be good to take a look at modern award winning sites (Just google inspirational site design) and see what they do.
Most different sites use a changed layout
(Meaning something other then the regular 2-3 column layout)
This adds more feel to the forums. Outside from that you can search up static pop art pictures and learn html to stick them to a part of the layout. (I can show you what i mean in PM's)
outside from the look, the forums is a great idea and will develop really nice if you work on it.
