RE: DownCheck.com - Deadmau5 - 12-31-2010

Non profit? I don't see any advertisements on it.

RE: DownCheck.com - Ally Mac - 12-31-2010

Not really easy to remember, isup.me is a lot shorter.

RE: DownCheck.com - Omniscient - 12-31-2010

I'll put ads on the redesign.

And isup.me has this weird sexual undertone. Smile

But anyways..I'm going to offer better service than that site.

RE: DownCheck.com - Fragma - 12-31-2010

Looks like it has a lot of potential. I'm really liking the domain as well.

Off-topic,

How do you come across domains like this? Do you search for them and just get lucky? Or buy them off people for more than the average price?

RE: DownCheck.com - Death Trap™ - 12-31-2010

For some reason when I read the domain name I think of someone checking or going down on me. I wonder if its just me...

Great domain.

RE: DownCheck.com - Omniscient - 12-31-2010

I honestly think of the best keywords I can then see if it's registered. If it is then I often send inquiries to purchase it. In this case the owner was a domainer I know. I've had deals with him in the past too. So we made a reasonable deal. It's amazing how many times I whois and it's someone I know. It helps to be in the right circles. I've gotten some good deals.

RE: DownCheck.com - Swift Swim - 12-31-2010

Seen the design, possibly make the 'check' input bar more centralized (vertically not horizontally)

Porn being the biggest, or second biggest thing on the internet. I doubt that is a bad thing. Tongue

But, I wish you luck with your site. Smile

(12-31-2010, 02:44 PM)Omniscient Wrote: Actually that's not my ref link. I bought this site with the script and I'm totally redoing it. I'll be adding a very cool Advanced Check which will grab more data to display like DNS and IPs. I may do a redesign with a dark background just to contrast DC from other similar sites. But the goal will be a clean layout.

I like little projects like this. I can work on them a couple days then let them out into the wild to grow. I have a number of site that make good yearly income and require no maintenance. I expect that from this site too.

And with places to advertise it immediately like SF, HF, MyBB, and Central. It will surely do well.

See..that's key. I use tools already at my disposal to grow new projects. I'm more likely to buy a site with built-in traffic than buy advertising. There are lots of smaller sites you can get for a couple hundred that for it's lifetime will be a traffic source. HF would be nowhere if it wasn't for a $40 site I bought. That's the truth.

Oh well, that could always be a good idea with the ref link to a domain registrar.

And that's really good insight...buying out smaller sites to being traffic. Omni, thanks for that. I remember looking at the waybook machine and HF had people posting from the start. What was the website you bought?

EDIT:
Do you buy out forums or something related to what you're starting? And do you have any method to find them?
EDIT2:
And you could buy out
