HostsXpert - Host File Restorer
#1
What is your hosts file?

The hosts file is a computer file used in an operating system to map hostnames to IP addresses.

Many times when you have a virus, it'll add entries into the hosts file which can be found at:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\

The entries it adds in will look like this:

Code:
127.0.0.1   virustotal.com
127.0.0.1   scanner.novirusthanks.org
127.0.0.1   bleepingcomputer.com

And so on. This blocks your computer from accessing those websites, sometimes programs such as cracked photoshop will add an entry like this:

Code:
127.0.0.1  update.adobe.com

If you are using the cracked program, you'd not want to remove that, or else it could cause your program to bug.

This thread is aiming at virus infected users, so sorry if you restore it with your precious cracked software entries Blackhat

The link to download HostsXpert is 'Here.' The main page for it, if you'd like is 'Here.' Disregard the OS it says it works on, it works on my Windows 7.

HOW TO USE

It is really simple, but if you'd like to know, here it is.

Download the zip file, extract it, then open the executable.

Some people may want to create a backup, simply click 'create backup.'

Now click 'restore MSHosts file.'

Your Hosts file is now restored and you can access the sites you've been blocked from Oui

Sorry if this'd been posted before, only glanced :p

Credits to me for this accept the italicized in the beginning Smile

Pretty nice post. Especially for those who don't know how to clean their hosts file.

Good job. Smile

Thanks Oui

Figured I'd contribute here since I'm clearly not on HF.

Hopefully people need this
