Desktop Bsd
#1
I'm downloading it now, never tried it. Probably just go with the live disc or install it in virtual box. Are any of you using it and if so what do you think?

OpenBSD is the operating system that I use on my file server, and it is very stable. I'd give you the uptime, but I'm on my laptop at the moment. I've never seen much of a reason to use it as a desktop though. BSD seems more server oriented.

Yeah you're right, but i think it would be nice to have a functioning BSD desktop to play around with too.

BSD as a desktop itself sucks. The only one i was able to get working with BSD as a desktop was Pc-BSD and i couldn't get much of the drivers working. Your best bet is that. BSD though has bad desktop support.

I've always liked the BSD environment, but I don't think that I'll ever switch to a BSD operating system on my desktops or laptop.

I downloaded pc-bsd 8.0 http://www.pcbsd.org/, using it right now, everything is working Oui
I prefer it over desktop bsd 1.7 to be honest, has a fairly large variety of software/applications & games: http://www.pbidir.com/
that can be installed with a simple double click and not to mention ports. I will update with a fresh screenshot when i have finished configuring it to my liking. Definitely worth a looksy!

PC-BSD is pretty nifty. I've used it for laptops a number of times and makes a great live CD too. I'd recommed it as it's very established.
