How can I update MYBB

I'm trying to update to the latest version (1.4.11) from 1.4.9
I just want to know what to do because I don't want to mess anything up.

Well it says

Upload ALL of the files and folders in the "Upload" folder including the install folder, overwriting the existing copies (this contains the upgrade files also) to your forums root directory.

Won't that rid of all my threads/themes/plugins?

No, because you're not deleting any files in there. Only the files that will get need to be updated will be over-written, nothing will be deleted.

Then just go to the install directory, and run the upgrade.

Make sure you backup your database first and that you're using the whole 1.4.11 package.

MattR have good advice.
I always backup my mysql datebase first.
then I use beyond compare to compare files and copy my mods.
I only have few modded php files anyway.
I just uploaded updated mybb files with modded files to my forum dir.
then I go to install page and update
