PS3 In Melt Down

So, it started off with me getting Modern Warfare 2 for my birthday today. And I wanted to play it, obviously. So I turned on my PS3, and it was just the default background. The vista looking thing. It didn't have any menu or whatever, so I turned it back off, then on, over and over, still the same thing. So I googled how to do a hard reset, I'm doing all the steps right, but I'm not getting any picture on my Screen? There isn't anything coming through so I don't know what I'm doing.
