As a trainee, you are required to detect and find all sorts of malware. Occasionally, you may come across an unknown one, and you will not know what to do. This is where Jotti and VirusTotal come into play.

Jotti and VirusTotal are both single file scanner sites. Their websites can be found respectively:

http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.virustotal.com/

Using these resources, give instructions to the victim stating for them to upload the unknown file to the website. Do make sure your instructions are clear on WHICH file to upload.

Jotti:

We need to do a quick check on a file.

• Go to Jotti.
  
• Click Upload.
  
• Copy and paste the exact file name in bold:
  • file name
• Click Submit.
  
• Copy and paste back the results once Jotti has finished scanning the file.
