Building a Forum - Wheelz - 08-19-2011

Hey SF, im going to start building my first website tomorrow ,
I would like it to be a gaming/clan forum,
do you guys have any advice or tips to what mods or programs to use for this,
Ive never built a website before, I do know moderate HTML though, so all your help would be appreciated,
I've heard about mods such as PHPMyAdmin and MyBB so any advice for which is best for a forum would be awesome,
also any hosting advice would be great
by the way here is a example forum that I really like and would kind of like mine to look like,
http://mpgclan.com/portal.php

Thanks
Wheelz

http://www.000webhost.com/ For a free host
http://www.godaddy.com/ For a paid host
That forum you referred to uses myBB , there are a lot of similar themes you can use .

Thanks man, so all I have to do is sign up on this site and I get free hosting and domain name, and I can just start uploading mybb installation to it via filezilla?

Your domain will have freehosting in it. That's not a real problem though. You can use this for a free domain. It will redirect to the real site. Once you get your host then yes you will upload mybb to the site with filezilla. I would search on here for a tutorial on that if you don't know how to.

I wont go with free hosting. If you sign up at 000webhost, you will only get a subdomain. I would bye a cheap domain and hosting at Godaddy.com
Then you need to install mybb and you can start setting up your forum like you want.

Mybb forum is best for you it's a feature rich forum script.
btw i will also suggest you to get a paid host because from that you can do much more things..

you can get some good themes from here

I might sound evil, but in my honest opinion .. If you have no idea what phpMyAdmin,MyBB is .. please, don't start any kind of website, it will be pointless.

well first of all mybb and phpmyadmin are not mods.

phpmyadmin is a thing that is usually inside of cpanel that lets you look at and edit databases(along with other things)

mybb is a forum software that is free. It is probably what you will want to use to make a forum. It comes with that portal page. mybb is what this forum uses.
