My friend used to use this when he was training to become a pilot and it was pretty good.

Flight Simulator X is pretty good if you want to check it out, you'll find a lot of nice simulator games on "Steam".

If you're looking for something like Sim City but with trains then http://www.citiesinmotion.com/ should be good.
I've played it before and was impressed, however, it's not a simulator of how to actually operate a train from a conductor perspective, more of a management kind of thing.
