I'm creating a post later with my ebooks, got them on HF, but the site is experiencing some problems at the moment.

I downloaded the tutorials from http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/

figure if anyone can teach you how to program in Java it should be the creators lol. There is a download link to the right for you to download.

You can try books such as Head First Java, Java For Dummies. This is all I know. ;\

You can also try : The Java Tutorial Fourth Edition
And if you get more advanced, you can try : Effective.Java.2nd.Edition.May.2008

If you were actually going to buy a book, I'd recommend the books by O'Reilly or Java for dummies, they are always very good for beginners.
