I've installed Ubuntu many times, and I've always had the same problem.
My wifi button on my PC blinks from blue to orange.
Blue meaning wifi is on.
Orange meaning it's off.

And since it keeps going on and off for some reason, it slows down my internet connection a lot.

Help?
What is the name and model of your wireless device? Does it actually connect then randomly drops?

Atheros AR5009 802.11a/g/n WiFi Adapter.
And yes, it stays connected most of the time, but it's really slow since the wifi keeps going on and off for some reason.
Try this:

Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-wireless-lucid-generic

Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-lucid

That should fix your problem.
This happened to me.
Pissed me off.
I searched the whole internet till i found how to fix it. Something with the drivers or something. But the command above this post should do it i think
look for "atheros linux installation tool"
it finds the most updated version of the driver and installs it..
I also have the atheros chipset (n adapter) and it also has the blue light

after installing this it worked like a charm =)
