also choosing a reliable hdd is a must.
i did the partition thing then my hdd went 1tb gone lol

xp actually warns you if a hdd failure is on its way. If it gets 50 read errors it switch back to PIO mode which many people think xp slows down and redo their OS. But its the xp driver. If you uninstall the disk driver reinstall it your hdd will run at UDMA speeds again. If its happens two or three times in a short space of time back up your data. Your drive is on its way
Super-informative, but I doubt I'd beable to adhere to some of those guidelines!
They're pretty cheap now anyway, and you should always keep a backup!
This is a very informative tutorial and I have learned some new things. Thank you and keep up the good work mate.
Wow, this is an excellent tut. Never knew it was so fragile.

Probably after 3yrs, ssd will replace hdds.

Will be longer. The price per gb are expensive and big servers need big drives. Plus the I/O will be high with a bigger drive.

How long does a SSD last?
depend on the number of write/erase cycles a person performs a day. If we assume that an average person will write 50 GB per day every day, a 64 GB MLC drive would last 35 years (64 GB x 10,000 / 50 GB / 365 days) and a 64 GB SLC drive would last 350 years (64 GB x 100,000 / 50 GB / 365 days). Of course for MLC-based SSD's with a maximum write/erase cycle lower than 10,000, you will need to adjust the math.
Good tutorial.
I need to mount my HDD's better, this tut reminded me how to do it.
Thread bookmarked , I read something but not have time , will back later to read rest, thanks for tut.
