You need to make him aware of the brotherly bond between you two and let him know that you're there for him. You should involve him in your activities and try and teach him how to react in situations that he may encounter during school.

I found that the way I treated him (like a mate) rubbed off on him quickly because of his autism and he acted the same way with the people at school at they began to accept him.

This is just my advice from what I taught myself. You might find the below resources useful:

Thanks a lot man, that post has helped me heaps.
The best thing for him, is to start building his self confidence, and being himself. In my opinion, things like these are a sign that a person needs to be themselves, and enjoy life for their own reasons, not for what other people expect them to be. Although these kinds of things can be hard, people that learn this at a young age typically grow older to be quite successful ;).

Just give your brother some hope. Sounds like he needs it.
That is really low man, If I were you I would start pumping weights with my brother and after a while of that you both go to the school and do some good old fashioned ass whoopingOui

That would teach them by getting there as kicked by a kid with a disabilityOui
Try to be his best friend. It will give him confidence. At time, can you incorporate him with your group of friends?
Teach him self defense if necessary; if that does not work out, please, for the love of Kami-Sama spend more time with him and raise his self-esteem. I've seen way too many suicide stories with autistic children, and I don't want your brother to be included in those stories.
Taking him out would be nice make him feel like his a normal kid Smile
I'm sorry to hear this. I have a few tips for you that I think you should take advantage of.

For one, I personally do not believe it takes a therapist to help a person. In fact, the love of a brother (you) is probably better then any form of therapy. You have the ability to help him if you choose. Your position as a brother is what matters most the right now. You need to step up and assume the responsibility of helping him. I suggest you start by informing him that he can tell you anything, and talk to you about anything. Next, be open with him and be understanding of anything he tells you. You're his brother, and you seem like you care. The fact that you made a thread here indicates that you want to help your bother. So do so. Hope is not lost because you cannot afford professional help. The term professional is overrated in my opinion. It just means you have credentials to do what you're doing, and you get paid. You are his brother. You can connect with him better than any stranger.

Good luck.
Make him feel important, take him out with you and your friends and talk about him, compliment him, ect..

Like to a circus or amusement park.

That never works! You can't make friends by fighting back
This is a very difficualt situation, because you have the feeling of you dont know what to you. However what the best thing to do is, is just be there for him. Just be a shoulder to cry on, because right now that seems is what he needs most.

Just show your borther your there for him and tell him your'll protect him, and keep that promise. If kids are actually picking on him like making fun of him or stuff like that, advise the teacher. It sounds stupid, but it can help, more so in a lower grade rank.

Like I said, the best thing you can do is be there for him and show him how much you care about your brother. Showing a bit of tlc to your brother will not make you seem week, you'll be shwoing your strong for him.
