Is $7.99 a year a good deal for a .com? I am thinking about getting a .net instead for $1 more. Which is a better deal?
What is the extension? Where are you buying?
.com for $7.99 and $8.99 for .net

I just edited OP see for details.
Where aer you ordering from?
That sounds like a GoDaddy deal.. but yet, it's a good deal.
TLD's average in the $9.99 area so you do the math.
$7.99 > $9.99

Technically $7.99 < $9.99 :o you know, since 7 is smaller than 9. But paying $7.99 > paying $9.99 Big Grin
There are coupons for Godaddy that you can get at Namepros.com. I have a wholesale account at Moniker.com and I get .net's at $6 and .com's at about $8. Personally I think the deal from Namecheap.com is good because you get free whois.

Also try Name.com every now and then because they run specials too.
Yeah, I use NameCheap. For a while they were giving free 1 year SSL's with each domain registration as well, so I have about 5 SSL's sitting about in my account.
The register is www.cheap-domainregistration.com . I think I am going to get the domain name. It sounds pretty reasonable from what you all have been saying.
