Property prices in rural areas are always lower than that seen in prominent urban centres.  Owning or taking up an apartment, luxury villa or a house on rent in a posh area is considered as one’s high economic and social status.  A trend being seen in recent times in the UAE is that the affluent sections in the society are moving away from rural areas and setting up their place of residence in the urban areas.

As is the norm in all modern societies, the rural folk in order to seek better economic opportunities are migrating to urban areas.  While the rural lifestyle is one that is self sustaining, the urban lifestyle is one that is dependent.  In urban areas, since there is no food production, the people living in the urban areas are forced to spend much money for almost all the basic amenities and necessities of life.

In most societies that are urbanizing at a rapid pace, a rural-urban divide is common.  This is not the case in the UAE which started urbanizing several decades ago.  Today, it is difficult to distinguish the difference between rural and urban areas.

In earlier times, property prices in the urban areas and the fringe areas of the urban-rural divide were on the higher side.  In recent times, property prices all over the country have appreciated phenomenally.  When a property is put up for sale property prices will be on the higher side if it is a property that is likely to appreciate at a faster pace later on.
