Full Version: My encounter with the dentist...

Basically, my plans for the day were to go to the orthodontist to have my wire taken off my braces so I could go to the dentist to get 2 baby teeth extracted. I would then go back to the orthodontist to get the wire put back on and I would go home.

This is how it actually went.

First orthodontist appointment went fine. I went home for a bit then went off to the dentist. We were in there for half an hour as they were pulling with all kinds of tools. The dentist told me she could not get either of the teeth to budge at all.

I don't have adult teeth to replace these baby teeth at all. That's why they're still there. Usually, the adult teeth would get rid of the roots of the baby teeth and would come through. Since there was no adult teeth here, the baby tooth got very comfortable. It had fused with my jaw bone. So I was told to go to a specialist centre to get oral surgery (not the first time).

At the dental centre I was given more local anesthetic. Usually it doesn't hurt. Just a small sting as it goes in. I'd received anesthetic at the regular dentist when they tried to pull my teeth out. Not a problem. But this time, holy crap was it painful. He injected me about 6 times in total and on the last one he managed to inject and damage a nerve causing an electrical shock in my jaw. Though it was short and sharp, it was one of the most painful things I'd ever experienced.

20 minutes of drilling, 18 stitches, and $875 dollars later, I was two teeth short. That's right. $875 for two freakin baby teeth. Ridiculous.

Went back to the orthodontist after that to have my wire attached again. I've been at home for 2 hours and my mouth has only just stopped bleeding. I'm on some crazy pain killers.

I've got some excellent dentist stories involving dental surgery if you'd like to hear more. Usually, it's no where near this bad. Don't fear the dentist.
I'm terrified of the dentist.
My brother has the same problem, he doesn't have 11 of his adult teeth, so he's not losing baby teeth.
That sounds so horrible, I'm sorry that happened to you. Unsure

The problem is that eventually his baby teeth will fail and fall out. That's not what you want because you'll be left with gaps everywhere. I've had to have 10 teeth pulled and probably 2 more necessary.

Basically, we're extracting all the baby teeth and just closing the gaps. So, essentially, I have a lot less teeth in my mouth.

Yeah, they're going to pull them out and drill in fake ones at some point. That sounds so painful, I feel horrible. The only teeth I'm missing are my wisdom teeth.
One of the reasons I love England... If you're under 18, or you're a Student, you don't pay for dental treatment, or at least with the NHS you don't.

That's what we need up in Australia. I'd probably have saved my parents over $8000.
$8,000?? Wow...

I swear you could just buy fake teeth for that much and not have to have any worries at all ever again lol...

Each individual fake tooth costs around $8000. I'd be needing 2-4 of them. Plus, they need servicing every few months. So we went for this option.

It's freakin bullshit.
