I love to hate mods. Part of my forums theory is Moderation is Overrated.
I really do. I have trolled several here and with a good result.
Eve was one i had fun with in the early days lolz.
Sam is different. He is actually a damn good Mod. I am hesitant to say it but i have to agree with BreShiE.
He has to be the most reasonable Mod i have ever come across.
As for him not being active... Can i just say.
Whenever you report a post or thread. I bet you Sam is the one to deal with it.
We might not see him much on here but he is active. I assure you.
Not suckin your d ick Sam just tellin it how it is.

In addition to that, it's usually within the hour too.

Off topic:
DAMINK stop disappearing, I need someone like you here to debate with.

EDIT: I guess you guys think he's not active because he doesn't post all that often any more? Well that may be because he's now in a full time job as well as maintaining his own forum, and still manages to keep the forum spam free AND in good time too.
To those still trying to find points against Sam's superb moderating skills, do notice that the members like DAMINK, BreShie, etc. who have been constantly online on the forum have noticed his efforts. We appreciate him and value him.
Those who have logged in sporadically every once in a month would be more susceptible to notice the changes in staff positions without knowing the underlying reasons behind it.

Not sure if this was still the topic though. Thought I'd share my two cents.
I am psyched about reaching this achievement within the next couple weeks.

Thanks Omni.

I've been sick this week. Been hard to focus and get anything done. I'm finally feeling better so I'm back here posting.

Sam is great. Doesn't mean he always will be. My experience is that almost everyone falls short at some point. I had IBF as Admin for a while. That didn't really help the site out too much to be honest. I don't see why this site needs a pile of moderators and admins. We have about 200 members log in daily and about 300-400 posts a day. Very few are actually reported. On average I think about 3-4 posts per day are reported. Hardly a big deal considering HF has 1000+ reports per day.

I really don't want to do it all myself but I'm certainly not going to grant power over a forum that doesn't need that position. This is still my forum.

Yeah because you're expecting position here. Will never happen.

I agree. Mods should imho be very low-key and low-drama. The mods that go around bragging about what they can do don't last. No reason to be intimidating or threatening. Just commit action and move on. Enforce a sites policies. That's the job of any moderator.
This site doesn't need any more staff nor does it need a new admin. Like Omniscient said there are only a few reports a day. Obviously that varies.

The most time consuming thing at the moment is the feather reviews, which of course members don't see, which in turn makes people think that perhaps I'm not active.

I respond to questions and problems via PM's and I post when I want too.

Although I may look a little "un-active" most of of the stuff I do happens behind the scenes.

Also for a personal opinion, I think we can all agree that this new system has made things quite a bit better, we haven't had too many feather spammers at all. - Just the usual advertisers/spammers that are not related to the feather.

I would say this "system" has improved things a bit, but if there's a type of spammer that will always exist from time to time, who's primary focus is on that award. How are they going to notice that there's a "system" in place if they are off busy spamming.

My point here is that i'm not concerned whether they get the award or not. And virtually that's ALL the system does. I'm more concerned with the spamming that goes on for members to even think they qualify for the award. And just having a system in place is not going to prevent that. In some cases I would say we've been lucky with the system in place that some have even come across the thread, and read it to understand that they need to follow this system.

Whether they get the award or not in the end, I personally don't care. It has no relevancy to stopping much forum spam here, only the odd member who's intention was mainly for the award.

If you want this "system" to succeed on a larger scale, it's going to have to be more visible to the newly registered.

A key detail you're not grasping. The feather award is not advertised here. The only place you can find out about it is at HF in the Awards page. Which points right to this thread. It's not that this has to be more visible when the award itself is mainly invisible.
Both Sam and Omniscient do there up most best for Support Forums and not enough people realize and respect that. Hence why there effort goes without a say. They never really get thanked for what they do. If I'm honest It's about time they did.
Not being the devil's advocate, but I'm actually fine with where Support Forums is headed now. With the new policies, groups, etc it's going uphill in my opinion. The number of staff is perfectly suitable for now as well.
