Here's what I did in photoshop lately:

The edges are a bit choppy, and don't the the animation does it any favours at all. It would be better if the animation was a fire effect inside the eye, rather than the sort of shine effect you have at the minute.

I've already seen tons of that stuff, i'm not going for the norm on the graphic
