Heres my 2 cents that of which might have already been mentioned.
Netbooks are great if you do not do anything that requires a half decent graphics card or A LOT of power. They are good for taking to College classes because you can take notes easily. They are good for trips because you just surf and do documents, But if you want to have something that can play games and be your "Main" machine, Notebook beats it all the way. So to me there situational.
I would say i love to have 1 more laptop.
I have an Acer Aspire Laptop and would like to upgrade it.

Notebooks are best if your life is full of Travelling.
I have a nice laptop, never tried a netbook.
I got myself a ACER and a MSI laptop. Never did try netbook.
I just bought a HP mini 110 netbook a month or two ago, and I definitely think it was worth buying. My view on it is this: If I'm going to be buying something for portability, I'm going to buy the most portable thing I can find(assuming it's reasonable). My netbook runs Windows 7 professional pretty well, and I'm also running Sabayon linux without any trouble. The reason I decided to buy this netbook in particular is that it had, at least when I was comparing it prior to buying, the largest keyboard on the netbook market. Other than the keyboard, most of the specs on netbooks remain about the same.
Netbooks are OK, But a Netbook with Windows 7 tends to run slow.

*TIP: NEVER Buy a Toshiba Netbook.
They will die on you.
that is actually a really good point to buy a desktop and have a notbook, wish i did that before i bought my laptop i have now.
Netbooks are good for mobility according to their size, but laptops are good for general use.
I am getting an HP Mini soon, and am stoked because it has great reviews, especially for the keyboard which is like 93%(?) the size of a real keyboard. I'm gonna make a tutorial when I get it cause I plan to turn it into a beast. Big Grin
I have the same situation as you omni, I've always had a laptop but I recently got a Samsung net-book, this was one of the cheaper ones just got it because my laptop broke and needed a computer quick. However it runs just as smooth as my laptop did maybe even a bit better.
