AVG is probably one anti-viruses I have never liked. I have done tests on it, and it failed miserably. Kaspersky on the other hand, is a fine program.
Avira, Nod32 and Avast combined with malware bytes anti malware
Now a days there are many anti virus software are available in market but Bit Defender Antivirus Pro 2011 is best for protection. It has the a lot of absolute affection set and is completely flexible. It is well balanced, powerful, and effective.
My personal favorite is Avira. I do think between the better AV's there are just small differences. I also do like ESET.
- Avira
- NOD32
- Kaspersky

Optional scan: Malwarebytes anti malware.
ofcourse Paid is better than free.

I think kaspersky is the best even though i don't have it.
Kaspersky is up there pretty high as of 2011 recently. I'd agree with you there, people who say AVG or ESET are living in the past. ESET is good, but the false positives rate is high on that one too.

I personally don't have any problems with AVG. For me it seems to be doing its job.
