Good point. In addition to the posts requiring timely response, there are also informative threads that get lost. It would be nice to encourage more new threads as an alternative to the popular threads you mention.

Now that I think about it, I probaly would use it.
Although you don't want it to be too packed so I supose it could replace "View new posts" as "today's post" will contain any post in "new posts".

Or have a drop down menu for quick links? Would tidy it up a lot.
