49 little cats (7x7) = 49 x 4 = 196

196 + 28 = 224 legs in each backpack
So 7 backpacks: 7 x 224 = 1568
Each girl has 2 legs, so total each girl accounts for 1570 legs.
1568 x 7 = 10,990
Looks like I got it right, it was 10,990.
It wasn't as hard as I expected it to be.
I think its,
7x2+7x4+7x4x7x7
=17836
As the same with the guy above. Am i right?
The equation you give above is equal to: 1414, not 17836. So, I don't know what you're doing.
7 girls = 14 legs
49 backpacks = 0 legs
343 big cats = 1372 legs
2401 small cats = 9604 legs
14+1372+9604=10990 legs

I'm sorry, but this thread deserves to be gravedug. After multiple-multiple tries (I'm talking around 5-10) I finally got the right sum! Here's how I did it:
7 Girls = 14 Legs
7 Backpacks p/girl = 49 backpacks
49x7=343 big cats
343x7=2401 small cats
343x4=1372 big cats legs
2401x4=9604 small cats legs
9604+1372+14 = 10990!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10990?
