It's just for physical appearances I'm assuming. Thanks for this, will be using it when I install VB.Net

It makes the program look more professional/unique without having to use DotNetBar, which requires you to add extra .dll files when you distribute.

Yep, or just find a cool image or button on the internet, then go to http://www.pixlr.com/editor/ jack up the brightness by 50%. Then save that too.
