About me
Hi my name is Gonzo. Well that is my nickname anyway.
I have been running websites and messing around with computers since I was 9, and even if I do not have the knowledge to do something, I tend to be able to work it out logically.

What i am offering here
Here is a list:
  • Forum installation/setup
  • Database imports
  • Theme installation and minor edits (to my ability)
  • Plugin installation and config
  • If you do not have hosting I will try to also find a free host to suit your needs.

Note
This is for mybb mainly, but I can help with other forum software. I used to run VB, PhpBB, YaBB and SMF. But that was a very long time ago.

I AM NOT ASKING FOR ANYTHING IN RETURN
I am offering this simply because out of all the years on HF and my time on SF i have never had anything to offer.
That's very nice of you! Good luck with helping others set up.
Thanks ^^, i just hope someone uses this soon so they can see what i have to offer Smile
Good on you for offering this.
See here is the thing. For someone to offer lets say theme and plugin help there essentially asking for FTP/ACP access.
This begs the next question. Are you worthy of such an honour? NO.
Sure advice here would be great. But to offer more is sort of scary.
Only 1 person ever had access to my forums and only one will. Omni.
Just my advice.
I assume this offer is done purely out of the desire to help others and for that i think your a stand up guy.
But its dangerous if you step outside the help environment into the i will fix environment.
Just my opinion is all.
But hell why not. Put you to the test.
I run 4.0.5 VB. And i can not seem to stop bots (xrummer) from registering.
Well i have been able to stop them but i am unable to stop them during automated registration outside the limit i set.
Well i do stop them but i have not yet been able to stop them from posting there URL in the website option during reg i assume?
Your advice?
I have done my own custom edits to try prevent but no success yet.
Basically i run a time limit that humans see but bots dont. So i can catch them easily with automated tools.
But i find they can still post links in the website option of vB.
And given you offer advice i thought i may ask.
Read the title, forum setup.
I would have access to an empty FTP.
I would have temporary admin access to an EMPTY site.
The only think you may consider risky here is me having a copy for your database (if you want to import for you) in which case don't ask me to do it for you.
If you don't trust me, like with anyone on the internet, just step away.

As for your question, i had a problem like that before. Mine was extremely bad.
What I did:

Changed the registration page url
Changed the registration page text area id's
Changed the activation to admin only.

This was back when spambots were simple though.

Hope I may have helped a bit.
Friendly bump.
Hey, I would like to try this out. I will PM you, thanks for any help..
