I myself, started at a forum that used vbulliten and I loved it. I never went back to those old school ip.boards again. Then I got introduced to SF and now my personal preference is MyBB.

I prefer using MyBB because it is easier to install plugins and templates. Plus, it's free.
vBulletin is too expensive and it is complex to me.

I would go with MyBB. A lot more customization to be done. It's also simple to install.

vBulletin has the worst admin control panel ever, its good for commercial use though. MyBB is good for more of a non-commercial community

MyBB is an extremely better forum. The layout, features, they are all way better than vBulletin.
