What do/did you do when your first pet passed away?

Its almost like losing a real friend in real life.

I woke up one morning and my cat was beside the steps, dead. I cried for a while, and I still had to go to school that day. I was kind of young, so I didn't completely grasp death, I kept calling my mom to ask if he was ok, and she would tell me to go back to work. I came home and they told me Hansel was dead, I cried about an hour, I was sad for a while, then only a few weeks later, later one of my cats was hit by a car, and another caught a disease and passed away. I got a few new cats, and one of the original cats is still alive. Their all healthy and doing well.
