They will probably confiscate your weed if you smoke in public. If you keep it in the Coffee shop/your home they won't have a problem with it.

I think by law it was always illegal just that they were tolerant in coffee shops.on the streets was always illegal even if some people still do it to this day

Cannabis is legal in the Netherlands. It's illegal in other areas, such as the US or the UK and so on.

Coffee shops are the main places to smoke it.
Not on public streets with 3 year olds inhaling it getting high.
