Screen Capture/Recorder
#4
Free: Jing, or Camstudio
Paid: Camtasia Studios, or FRAPS with desktop-mode enabled

Jing is from the creators of Camtasia Studios, except it's free. It has great options for screenshots and supports screen recording. I love the screenshot tool, but I find the recording to be a little choppy even with my high-end computer.

Camstudio
is really old, but I find it well optimized for the lower-end computers. Not very good in my opinion.

Camtasia Studios
is pretty awesome. Recording interface is similar to Camstudio, but has more video options and also allows for live streaming. Also has a video editor that is like a polished version of Windows Movie Maker with better sound and video rendering features and a lot of video formats to export to including (but not limited to) SWF and GIF.

Pretty much everybody knows FRAPS. 6 minutes of footage in 1080p will give you several GB of data, but clear and crisp. Taking the time to compress it yourself is annoying, but I find it to be the best at recording my desktop fullscreen without lagging even with Windows Dreamscene enabled.
