Well there are many things you have to ask yourself before getting a pet, especially one like a dog.
1. Does your family have allergies? If so you will be best off getting a short haired dog, so It doesn't carry as much dander.
2. Who will be walking the dog? If you have a little sister who will need to walk the dog, you don't want a big dog like a St. Bernard, or a purebred lab, because they might not be able to control the leash. These dogs also eat more, which costs more.
