I am having issues with running 3D effects on my Ubuntu 9.10 distro. It has happened on every distro I install; I don't know what the problem is. When I ran a test it said:
"Software Rasteration In Use"
My ATI model is:
ATI Technologies Inc RV370 5B60 [Radeon X300 (PCIE)]
So what do I do?
Ubuntu is not my thing but you could try

Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
I've always had problems with ATI and Ubuntu (don't use Ubuntu anymore- openSuSE). It was hell. Have you tried a different OS?
