I currently have Vista on my pc and I was wondering if getting XP would let me have faster and better performance while gaming. I heard that XP is smaller size so it might help. I know it also depends on specs but the game I'm trying to play is a tad old and I think my specs are enough but think my OS is slowing me down. Pros and cons of XP?
Actually this is true, my games were running faster on Xp than my current windows7.
I still prefer Xp over 7 for many reasons.
Vista sucks dogs nuts. Thats a fact. Its bloated and slow as hell.
XP is much quicker no question but i believe its about at the end of updates so that may be worth factoring in.
7 would be my choice easily but it does depend on your specs like you said.
Either way you have to scrap Vista man. Its simply a wreck of an OS.
I'd go with XP anyday,
But if i may recommend, try Ubuntu out.
I've been using XP for the last 2-3 years, its a stable and nicely working
operation system, i've used vista & windows 7, still would prefer
windows xp.

If your not used to linux then i would say dont even bother.
As for comparing the 2. Well old hardware then no question xp.
Finding drivers and installing some old hardware can be a nightmare on linux.
Personally XP is amazing, probably the best miracle of microsoft to date.

Ubuntu is a good Linux based O/S. There is an application called WINE (
http://www.winehq.org/) that "lets you run Windows software on other operating systems".
Alternatively, go back to XP SP3 (See
http://tinyurl.com/c54epnn for more details). As others have said it is relatively stable and much quicker/less troublesome than Vista.
Support for XP ends on April 8th 2014, so you have a couple of years left before it goes EOL (End if Life) i.e. no more security patches to plug the remaining vulnerabilities that malware and virus writers will not doubt work to exploit.

I do recommend Windows XP if you're using 32 bit because not ALL games support Windows 7 yet assuming you're the kind of person which plays classics such as Counter-Strike 1.6.

I honestly think that Microsoft should support Windows XP for a longer time as it's still one of the most popular version of Windows.
Windows XP for sure, there is so many things wrong with Vista, and as in most cases, if you cannot afford to run Win7 at least at recommended settings it will upset you in no time, best bet is to stick with XP SP3.
